Irish Moss Meal Replacement

 If you are not sure what to eat or how to get the most vitamins, the answer is simple.  Sea Moss also known as Irish Moss, is useful  for people who may be fasting and detoxing simultaneously.  In other words, when you are cleaning out internally, you still need nutrient rich food to keep going.  The solution is Sea Moss.

     Sea Moss is also called Irish Moss.  It contains an array of vitamins and minerals.  For this reason, it is considered a meal replacement.  For example, it contains Vitamins A, B, C, D, along with potassium, Calcium, Iodine, Magnesium and Iron to name a few.  It is easy to see why it is used to treat a host of symptoms or conditions.  I will not list them for fear you might think it is a superfood, which it is.  But many people are turned off by superfoods  so I better not.  You might just get healthy and we don’t want that do we?  Just kidding.

People who are stuck on protein need not worry.  Sufficient amounts of protein is part of the Sea Moss deal.  As if that wasn’t enough, it also provides Vitamin K, which is good for the heart.  Studies show that Vitamin K help prevent heart disease.  Many people also are not aware of the role that Vitamin K plays in bone building.  many people are encouraged to take isolated pills for bone building.  By now if you follow my posts, you should know how I feel about isolated vitamins.  We also forget that we are originated from the sea.  What I am trying to say is that we need sea vegetables.  This source of vitamins is often overlooked.  And even though we do not live in the sea, the sea lives in us.  We live in water in our mother’s womb.  So get over the fishy taste of sea vegetables.

     The consistency is similar to agar agar, in the sense that it creates a thick consistency when boiled.  For this reason, most people make a milkshake out of it.  But those of us that are into health, know to use any milk other than cow’s milk.  It has a fishy taste.  But the good news is that the taste is easily hidden with cinnamon and honey, among other things.  Some people add nutmeg, but I like to add powder ginger as well.

 There are two ways to prepare it; from scratch or simply buy it in powder form.  Jamaicans are known to make it from scratch.  Many of them add Isinglass, linseed and even nutmeg.  If you are vegan, know that Isinglass comes from the bladder of fish.  Isinglass is traditionally used to clarify things such as beer. One can see that it was probably used to clarify Sea Moss, because things in the sea can have unwanted particles.  By the way, you must wash the Irish Moss/Sea Moss prior to boiling.  If you don’t feel like boiling and creating the right consistency and freezing the rest or adding all the traditional ingredients, you can always use the powdered form.

     To recap, Sea Moss has many vitamins and minerals and thus it is ideal to use when fasting or when you are too lazy to cook.  If you make it from scratch, congratulations, you know what you are doing.  If you use a powder form, congratulations, you are still getting your vitamins.
